SIEVA-2 is a filtration centrifuge with microprocessor control. By an opening in the lid it is possible to fill the centrifugal basket during rotation. The solids remain in the centrifugal basket and the liquid can run off through a opening on the right side. The transparent lid allows a visual monitoring of the centrifugation. The SIEVA-2 is very versatile and suitable for various applications.

The operating principle of this centrifuge is the cake filtration, the filtration in which the required pressure force is generated in the centrifugal field. The perforated rotor is lined with a filter cloth. Due to the continuous inflow of the suspension, a filter cake builds up in the rotor, while the clarified liquid drains through the rotor casing or on the edge of the basket.

The filtration centrifuge Sieva-2 is mainly used for batch separation of relatively coarse particles or crystalline substances.

ICSPI has integrated all of the components of a traditional AFM onto a single 1 mm x 1 mm chip to create the world’s first single-chip AFM. That means that 250 AFMs can fit on the face of a penny.

The nGauge AFM uses micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) to control the X, Y and Z position of the tip. This means that no alignment of lasers is required.

The nGauge is the smallest AFM in the world. Because the entire unit weighs less than 500 grams, the nGauge rejects building vibrations, so no vibration isolation table is needed, which makes the nGauge a true benchtop AFM.

What can I use AFM for?

AFM provides topographical data of a surface. That means that you can look at the shape and size of individual features, such as the pits on a DVD, or look at the particle density, such as the number of nanoparticles in an area.

The nGauge AFM can be used to investigate surfaces where the features are up to 10 µm tall. It’s tricky to pinpoint a lower limit, but the RMS noise in the vertical (z) direction of the nGauge is 1 nanometre (nm). So, depending on your requirements, features as small as 5–10 nm can be imaged with the nGauge with acceptable accuracy.

To put what a nanometer is into perspective, a quarter (25-cent coin) is about 2 cm wide. An E. coli bacterium cell is 2 µm wide (10,000× smaller than a quarter). And the diameter of a DNA helix is 2 nm (1,000× smaller than a bacterium).

Eluent Delivery

The UHPLC Pump P 6.1L with LPG configuration has a new LPG valve for precise mixing efficiency of up to four eluents at up to 1000 bar. The integrated degasser prevents air bubbles in the system. A mixing chamber is mounted on each Pump P 6.1L. This can be adapted to the respective application as required.

Sample Injection

The Autosampler 6.1L can inject 0.1 – 5000 µl to have a large flexibility. Using standard vials or two microtiter plates will give you a maximum sample capacity of up to 768 samples or 108 vials. The UHPLC version can be used up to 1240 bar system backpressure.

Column Thermostating

The Column thermostat CT 2.1 is suitable for column thermostatization above and below room temperature. The instrument operates with a microprocessor controlled Peltier element for exact temperature settings.
